About our director

Wanda Burquest graduated from high school in Warner Robins, Georgia and is a graduate of the University of Georgia. She and her husband, Mark, and their sons, David and Daniel, returned to Warner Robins a number of years ago after living in South Carolina and Maryland. A former classroom teacher, Wanda homeschooled their two sons for fifteen years.

Active in her church, Wanda sings in the choir and does occasional solos. Wanda has directed several children’s musicals including Down By the Creek Bank, Joy Story, and Life School Musical. Additionally, she has performed and played roles in several musicals including Annie Get Your Gun, Smoke on the Mountain, The Gospel According to Scrooge, and It’s a Wonderful Life. She has taught various children’s choirs since the 1980s and currently serves as director of the Middle Georgia Homeschool Chorus sponsored by First Baptist Church of Warner Robins.

Being a part of Sweet Adelines has been an exciting and challenging activity for Wanda since 1996. She is currently director of the a cappella chorus, Sweet Georgia Sound, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International.  She is also active in quartet singing as the tenor in Southern Style Quartet.
